In a significant turn of events, Ammad Shakeel Butt, the captain of the Pakistan national hockey team, has been banned for two years following serious allegations regarding the treatment of players during their recent tour of Australia. Upon returning to Lahore, Butt revealed that players were subjected to menial labor, including cleaning kitchens and washing their own clothes, before competing in the FIH Pro League. This revelation adds to the controversy surrounding the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and its president, Tariq Hussain Bugti, who resigned amid claims of financial mismanagement by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Bugti stated that despite receiving Rs250 million from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the PSB failed to manage these funds effectively, leading to logistical challenges and inadequate accommodations during the tour. He emphasized that payments to hotels in Argentina were delayed, only being processed a month after the team's return.
