On February 18, 2026, the government of Pakistan announced that it is finalizing a comprehensive Auto and Tractor Policy aimed at enhancing local manufacturing and indigenization in the auto sector. Haroon Akhtar Khan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, stated, "The policy has been formulated after carefully considering the challenges faced by the auto sector," emphasizing its role in promoting a balanced and growth-oriented framework. During a meeting with Millat Tractors CEO Sikandar Mustafa, it was highlighted that Millat Tractors has achieved an impressive 90% localization in tractor manufacturing, showcasing the potential for further growth in Pakistan's engineering industry. The SAPM directed the Engineering Development Board to engage with all stakeholders to ensure the policy is inclusive and practical, supporting sustainable industrial growth and export-led initiatives.
