In recent developments, Pakistan and Uzbekistan have set an ambitious target to elevate their bilateral trade to $2 billion within the next two years, a significant increase from the current $450 million. This decision was made during the 10th session of the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, co-chaired by Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, and Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade. As reported by Dawn, the two countries agreed to expand the scope of their Preferential Trade Agreement, initially signed in March 2022, to include more than double the current 17 items eligible for bilateral trade. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to deepen economic collaboration across various fields, as noted by Tribune Latest, which also highlighted the importance of trade facilitation, logistics improvement, and customs digitalization in achieving these goals.
