The recent trade agreement between the United States and India, announced by President Donald Trump, has sparked significant attention and varied reactions. According to the Business Recorder, the deal will see US tariffs on Indian goods reduced from 50% to 18%, while India will lower tariffs on American industrial goods to zero from 13.5%. This agreement also includes India maintaining some agricultural protections, as noted by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who mentioned that tariffs on items such as 'tree nuts, wine, spirits, fruits, vegetables, etc., they’re going down to zero.' However, commodities like rice, beef, soybeans, sugar, and dairy were excluded from the deal, reflecting India's previous trade stance with the European Union. The deal also involves India agreeing to cease purchasing Russian oil, a point highlighted by Al Jazeera, although Russia's Kremlin has not confirmed any such commitment from India.
