The Basant Festival in Lahore, scheduled from February 6 to 8, 2026, has prompted the Punjab government to announce free public transportation for the duration of the festival. According to Hum News, this initiative, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to provide 'safe, easy, and free travel facilities' to citizens and tourists, while also reducing traffic congestion in the city. The free transportation includes the Orange Line Metro Train, expected to serve approximately 250,000 passengers daily, and the Metro Bus Service from Shahdara to Gajjumata. The administration has advised citizens to avoid using motorcycles due to the risks posed by kite strings, suggesting the use of the mass transit system instead.
