The Basant festival in Lahore, which was set to return after an 18-year hiatus, has been overshadowed by a tragic event in Islamabad. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the cancellation of all Basant-related activities following a deadly blast in Islamabad that resulted in numerous casualties. As reported by Business Recorder, Nawaz emphasized the need for national unity against terrorism, stating, 'It is imperative that the nation remains united against the Khwarji menace and their sympathisers.' ProPakistani also highlighted Nawaz's decision, noting that the mega Basant show at Liberty Square was called off, aligning with similar actions taken in Sindh where cultural events were also canceled.
