The passing of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry at the age of 71 has been met with widespread mourning and tributes from political and civil society leaders across Kashmir and Pakistan. According to Pakistan Today, Ghulam Muhammad Safi of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir described Chaudhry as a leader who "served with sincerity and dignity," highlighting his efforts to keep the Kashmir issue at the forefront of international discussions. Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, acting president of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, praised him as a "strong advocate of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination." Chaudhry, who passed away after a prolonged illness, was laid to rest with full state and military honors in his native village of Chechian, as reported by Tribune Latest. His funeral, attended by thousands, including AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore and other prominent figures, underscored his significant impact and the respect he commanded.
