Sindh Cabinet Approves Rs33.7bn For Firefighting Infrastructure Modernization

On February 24, 2026, the Sindh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved a significant Rs33.7 billion package aimed at modernizing the province's firefighting infrastructure and emergency response systems. This initiative includes the procurement of 100 fire trucks, 35 water bowsers, and 8 firefighting drones, among other equipment, as part of a broader strategy to enhance the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Sindh Emergency Rescue Service (SERS) 1122. Shah emphasized the importance of this overhaul, stating, "We need a cohesive and rapid response to emergencies," highlighting the urgency of improving public safety measures. Additionally, the cabinet discussed labor rights reforms, particularly for women agricultural workers, ensuring equal wages and protections against workplace harassment, which reflects a progressive shift in labor policies in Sindh.
