Punjab Food Authority Destroys Expired Meat Amid Ramazan Inflation

In a significant operation on February 23, 2026, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) confiscated and destroyed 1,400 kilograms of expired frozen meat in Lahore, as part of a broader initiative to ensure food safety during the holy month of Ramazan. The operation involved inspecting 5,000 kilograms of meat, leading to the seizure of not only expired meat but also 900 kilograms of gram pulse, 80 kilograms of gram flour, and other food items. Asim Javaid, the DG of PFA, emphasized the importance of these actions, stating, "Timely action ensured the removal of hazardous meat from the supply chain" and warned that stricter laws would be enforced against food adulteration, with potential FIR registrations for violators. This operation aligns with the Chief Minister's vision for a healthier Punjab, particularly during a time when food safety is paramount due to increased consumption during Ramazan.
