In a significant development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced comprehensive reforms in the health sector, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. As reported by Pakistan Today, the health budget has seen a substantial increase from Rs399 billion to Rs630 billion, facilitating the induction of over 1,500 doctors. The Chief Minister highlighted the success of a program that provided over 10,000 free heart surgeries for children, stating, 'Saving a single life was equivalent to saving all humanity.' The reforms include the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a Performance Evaluation Report (PER) system to monitor hospital staff, alongside a transition to a paperless regime in district and tehsil headquarters hospitals. Emergency wards are now linked to Safe City cameras to enhance oversight.
