Pakistan has announced a significant investment in artificial intelligence (AI), with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiling a $1 billion plan to be executed by 2030. This announcement was made during the Indus AI Week 2026, a national event held from February 9 to 15 in Islamabad, which serves as a platform for policy, innovation, talent, and investment in AI. According to the Daily Times, the Prime Minister emphasized that this initiative is aimed at transforming Pakistan from an 'AI taker to an AI maker,' highlighting the strategic importance of AI in national development. The government plans to introduce an AI curriculum in schools across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and remote areas of Balochistan, as reported by the Tribune Latest. Furthermore, 1,000 fully funded PhD scholarships in AI will be awarded by 2030 to build world-class research capacity.
