In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Power Division to file a review petition against the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority's (NEPRA) new solar regulations, which have replaced the net metering system with a net billing framework. This decision follows widespread backlash from various stakeholders, including politicians and the business community, who argue that the new regulations could deter solar adoption and increase costs for electricity consumers. According to Business Recorder, PM Shehbaz emphasized the need to protect the contracts of the existing 466,000 solar consumers and ensure that the financial burden does not fall on the 37.6 million grid-dependent users. The Prime Minister's intervention aims to safeguard existing agreements and prevent additional financial burdens on consumers reliant on the national grid.
