The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that the long-awaited 5G spectrum auction will take place on March 10, 2026, with the expectation of generating between $300 million to $700 million for the government. The auction will offer 597 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum, including critical bands such as 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz. PTA Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman stated, "Improved connectivity is critical to achieving the Digital Pakistan vision," emphasizing the importance of this auction for enhancing the country's digital infrastructure. The auction process will utilize a multi-round electronic clock format, and operators are required to submit their bids by February 27, 2026, with a $15 million bank guarantee for participation. Rehman also noted that the rollout of 5G services is expected to commence within three to six months post-licensing, starting in federal and provincial capitals, and will require operators to establish 1,000 new sites annually to improve coverage and service quality.
