The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has raised concerns over the escalating prices of milk in the country, urging the government to regulate the dairy industry. According to ARY News, the PBF highlighted that milk prices in the retail market range from Rs 360 to 380 per litre, despite the removal of GST, which only reduced the price to Rs 305 to 315 per litre. The PBF's chief organizer, Ahmed Jawad, pointed out that the cost of milk, including logistics, is Rs 180 per litre, suggesting that the current retail prices are excessively high. He also compared the situation to neighboring countries, noting that Tetra Pak milk in India and Bangladesh is priced between Rs 250 to 270 per litre. The PBF emphasized that dairy companies' income ranges from Rs 60 billion to 100 billion, indicating a significant profit margin while a basic necessity like milk becomes increasingly inaccessible to the general public. They have called for the government to cap GST on dairy products at seven percent and to intervene immediately to reduce milk prices by Rs 50.
