On February 17, 2026, the Punjab Excise & Taxation Department officially launched the PAK-ID App, a transformative digital initiative designed to streamline vehicle ownership verification and transfer processes. This app, developed in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Punjab Information Technology Board, allows both local and overseas vehicle owners to complete biometric verification remotely using Face ID and biometric validation from their smartphones. Director General Umar Sher Chatha emphasized that this new system eliminates the need for overseas Pakistanis to travel to embassies or submit notarized affidavits, stating, "This initiative is a major step toward eliminating procedural bottlenecks". The app's integration with an existing e-payment platform enables users to pay transfer fees through a fully cashless and paperless method, with ownership transfers expected to be finalized within 48 hours after verification and payment.
