The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has intensified its crackdown on property tax defaulters, with the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department sealing multiple properties in Peshawar. This enforcement action, overseen by Excise and Taxation Officer Tausif Khan, follows repeated failures by many property owners to settle their tax liabilities. Legal actions are underway, and special recovery teams are pursuing major defaulters. Meanwhile, a significant financial scandal has emerged within the KP Forest Department, where a Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Swat is accused of embezzling approximately PKR 66.6 million (around $240,000). Investigations revealed that an additional PKR 90 million was illegally diverted into personal accounts, bringing the total estimated fraud to over PKR 150 million. The KP Finance Department has mandated immediate legal action, including the registration of an FIR and placing the accused on the Exit Control List (ECL), as concerns about corruption within the KP government escalate. So far, PKR 9.3 million has been recovered and returned to the treasury, with more details expected as the investigation progresses.
