Karachi is facing a significant water supply disruption due to repair work on a major 84-inch diameter water pipeline. The Karachi Water and Sanitation Corporation (KWSC) announced that the repair work would commence at noon on Monday, February 8, 2026, and is expected to last 96 hours. This repair is crucial as it addresses a leak detected in the Phase-I main water line located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. As reported by Tribune Latest, the repair work will result in a temporary reduction of water supply from the Dhabeji pumping station, leading to a shortfall of approximately 200 million gallons per day (MGD). Consequently, Karachi's water supply will drop from the usual 650 MGD to about 450 MGD during the repair period. The urgency of these repairs is underscored by the upcoming holy month of Ramazan, as noted by Dawn, which highlights the need for a stable water supply during this period.
