According to Dawn, the fire originated in the building's basement, likely due to a short circuit in a parked car, which subsequently spread to other vehicles. The lack of ventilation exacerbated the situation, causing smoke to engulf the entire building. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan highlighted the swift response of rescue teams, who utilized ladders and a snorkel to evacuate residents from the upper floors. The fire was brought under control by 8:30 am, with cooling operations continuing until 10 am.
