In a recent video message, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated the government's commitment to accelerating the privatization of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), announcing that more SOEs will be gradually privatized. He emphasized that the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is on track for completion by April 2026, and discussions on the privatization of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Housing Bank for Commerce and Industry (HBFC) are also underway. Aurangzeb highlighted that the financial losses of SOEs have steadily declined over the past three years, decreasing by Rs. 74 billion, with losses recorded at Rs. 905 billion in 2023, Rs. 851 billion in 2024, and Rs. 832 billion in FY25. He noted that while some profitable companies faced challenges due to global factors, operational improvements have been observed across many sectors, and the government is actively closing non-performing entities like the Utility Stores Corporation and PASSCO to reduce the fiscal burden on the state.
