In a significant development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Bannu has successfully apprehended Osama alias Baghi, a notorious terrorist commander, during an intelligence-based operation in the Pipal Bazaar area. According to Dawn, Osama was an active commander of the Ittehadul Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP), a group formed through the collaboration of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Gul Bahadur group. The suspect has confessed to involvement in nine major terrorist activities, including the December 2025 attack on Miranshah Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali Khan, resulting in the death of Khan, his two security guards, and a civilian. Additionally, Osama admitted to the abduction and murder of former Bannu station house officer Abid Wazir in November 2025, and the killing of three members of the Lakki Marwat peace committee. The CTD's operation is hailed as a 'significant step toward regional peace,' with further investigations underway to capture his facilitators and associates.
