The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has announced a significant change for the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets by implementing the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system starting from the 2026 examinations. According to Qaumi Awaz Stories, this digital system will allow teachers to evaluate scanned answer sheets on computers, with marks being calculated automatically by software. CBSE's Examination Controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj, stated that this move aims to enhance 'efficiency and transparency' in the evaluation process. He emphasized that 'digital evaluation is not only environmentally friendly but will also speed up the process and ensure the involvement of more teachers.' This change is expected to reduce errors in mark calculation and eliminate the need for post-result verification, thus streamlining the entire process. Schools have been instructed to ensure the availability of computer labs, reliable internet, and uninterrupted power supply to facilitate this transition. Notably, exams for Class 10 will continue to be evaluated in the traditional physical mode for 2026.
