Cannes Film Festival 79th Edition Features Arthouse Films in Paris

Festival director Thierry Fremaux noted the absence of major Hollywood studios, attributing it to a transitional phase in the U.S. film industry characterized by reduced risk-taking and weak box office returns. He stated, "In the US, it's a moment of transition. When you have such a transition, they don't have the projects to produce a lot of films, but I'm sure that it will come back, and we will be there waiting." The competition features established auteurs like Cristian Mungiu with 'Fjord' and Andrey Zvyagintsev with 'Minotaur', alongside newcomers, indicating a shift towards world cinema.
