Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has embarked on a pivotal four-day visit to India, aiming to reset diplomatic relations and significantly boost trade between the two nations. This visit comes in the wake of strained ties following accusations from Canada that India was involved in the assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023. Carney's administration is now looking to double trade with India to Can$70 billion (approximately $51 billion) by 2030, as part of a broader strategy to diversify Canada's economic partnerships away from the United States, which has historically absorbed over 75% of Canadian exports.
