The Bombay High Court has issued a stern warning to fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, emphasizing that those who deliberately evade court proceedings cannot demand judicial relief. According to Qaumi Awaz Stories, the court stated, 'پہلے واپس آئیں، پھر قانون کے مطابق اپنی بات رکھیں' (First return, then present your case according to the law). Mallya, who is challenging the constitutional validity of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018, and his designation as a fugitive, has been given a final opportunity to clarify his intention to return to India. The court, led by Chief Justice Chandrashekhar, remarked that Mallya is avoiding the court's jurisdiction, thus not entitled to any relief. The next hearing is scheduled for the following week. The Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated its commitment to bringing economic offenders like Mallya and Lalit Modi back to India, with Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary revealing that as of October 31, 2025, fifteen individuals have been declared fugitive economic offenders, causing a principal loss of 26,645 crore INR to state banks, with 19,187 crore INR recovered so far.
